ORGANIZATIONAL CONTEXT
Malnutrition is a development and public health problem, especially in developing countries. For example, iron deficiency alone affects more than two billion people worldwide, more than 30% of the world’s population. It therefore constitutes a public health problem that has reached epidemic proportions (WHO, 2018). Vitamin and mineral deficiencies increase the morbidity and mortality rates over the life course and can impede children’s physical growth and cognitive development. In this context, WFP wishes to recruit one (1) Program Assistant (in Food Technology) SC5 in Bujumbura.
Under the supervision of the Fortification Officer and the Head of the Nutrition Unit, the Assistant will assist the WFP Nutrition Unit in the implementation and monitoring of fortification activities, as well as agreements with different partners.
JOB DESCRIPTION
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES (not exhaustive)
Under the supervision of the Fortification Officer and the Head of the Nutrition Unit, the Assistant, the Program Assistant (Food Technology) SC5 will be responsible for the following tasks:
Regularly monitor the production of fortified foods at MINOLAC, SAVONOR, ALINE MILLING, CHEZ JUMA;
Support PRONIANUT for the holding of quarterly meetings of the Burundian Fortification Alliance;
Support the installation of equipment for the fortification of corn flour and cassava in the province of Ngozi;
Assist the nutrition session in the mobilization and organization of private sector meetings for nutrition;
Contribute to the establishment and regular updating of the database of agrifood companies in Burundi;
Contribute to the establishment of the self-monitoring system at MINOLAC level;
Help the nutrition unit to bring milling units in line with technical standards and regulations.
SPECIFIC ADDITIONAL FUNCTIONS
Support the implementation of the Agreement signed between the WFP and the BBN on fortification and fortified food control;
Support the implementation of the Agreement signed between WFP and CNTA with its partners in the area of food fortification and submit reports or reports;
Monitor payment and justification of funds made available to technical partners who have signed the Agreements with WFP;
Perform any other task, within the limits of WFP interventions in general and the nutrition section in particular, necessary for the technical implementation of interventions related to the local production of fortified foods;
Support the organization and holding of meetings with the various partners involved in the fortification.
Support the development of fact sheets and experiences;
Support the preparation of reports on the various fortification projects;
Archive reports and minutes of meetings internally or with; external partners;
Perform any other task proposed by the hierarchical heads of the nutrition section and of the program.

STANDARD MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education:
Have a University Degree in Food Science, Food Technology, Food Quality Control or any other sector related to Agri-Food.
Language :
Having a good oral and written expression of the French language is required. A good expression of Kirundi is required. Knowledge of English (written and oral) would be an asset.
QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED TO ENTER THIS ROLE
The candidate must have experience of at least 6 months in the field of Food Technology, Agri-Food, Quality Control or Nutrition.
Good interpersonal communication skills.
Having at least 6 months of fortification experience will be an asset.
Good ability to use IT tools (Word, Excel, Power Point).
Proficiency in oral and written communication in French and Kirundi. Working knowledge of English
TERMS AND CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT
Duration of contract: 11 months
Place of work: Bujumbura
Type of contract: Service Contract (SC)
